About Karate
The word karate translates into English from Japanese as 'empty hand'. This directly means learning to fight without any weapons and using only the empty hand. 'Karate do' (pronounced doe) translates into English as the 'way of karate' and summarises the attitude which one is expected to adopt in order to train and dedicate oneself to karate do.
With Kazen Kai Karate you will learn, the traditional kata, strikes, blocks, kicks and sweeps and how to combine these fluently to become an effective karate-ka. At Kazen Kai Karate, regular gradings and courses are available to give you the opportunity to take your karate skills to a higher level.

We offer classes for children as young as 4 years at our Karate tots and 8 years for kickboxing.


Nothing! All you have to do is turn up to your local club and give it a try!


You will never be too old to start Martial Arts! We have students of all ages at Kazen Kai. We even offer over 40's Karate classes and over 50's fitness classes at our Brentwood and Chelmsford Dojos.


We enroll strudents throughout the year, you can come along and try our classes at any time. Just take a look at a class timetable for your local club and decide when suits you best.


For your first lesson wear whatever is comfortable for you. Lose fitting clothes are best, e.g. track suit bottoms and a t-shirt. No need to worry about shoes as we train in bare feet!
